WP sites (on Ubuntu) slow on first access??

Hi,

I'm migrating my WP sites from Windows & IIS to Ubuntu & Apache. So far, so good but I've noticed one annoying problem:

When accessing a WP site on that new Linux server for the first time (or again after 'some time') it takes about 7 seconds to load!! After that, and for that session, it's super fast. But it's annoying that it's so slow when first accessing it!?

Is there anything I can do about that?

Thanks a lot!

The simple answer is
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/

That is going to handle opcode, db and page caching which will speed things up a lot.

Then you might look at page optimization

Here is an example of how fast you can get things working
http://www.webpagetest.org/result/101111_BEVE/

The first time a page of 100% unique content is loaded, it isn't cached, so you will have some ovehead - that can't always be improved, but it is being helped by opcode and db caching.

Note: I found disk caching to be better on my server, and to get the time to first byte down and optimize resources a little better I also have nginx set up as a reverse proxy to apache.
