create webpart using SharePoint Designer

Is it possible to create web part using SharePoint Designer ?  I want to create a webpart that allow user to input a key and retrieve some fields from a table stored in SQL Server.

yes, you can do this.

for your specific request, you might want to look into Data View web part.

When I try to modify the row set parameter, it returns a error. The problem relates to syntax. Do you have any idea ?
