iPhone Wipe Exchange 2003

Folks,

We have couple of iPhone 3gs which sync with Exchange 2003 for email & calendars.  Now I cannot get the Active sync mobile exchange tool to work to wipe remotely but I do have password policy which will wipe the phone after 8 failed attempts.  Is this suffiicent security or can the iphone be jailbroken and the company data (emails) be seen?  I presume this would also be the same for the ipad?

While I was employed as the IT manager for a Gov't entity I did some homework on the iPhone email security.  It isnt good, in fact our largest telco was not keen to sell us iPhones due to its own concerns over security.

You obviously have grounds for gauranteed security of the email content, so I would suggest you check to see if Apple have changed anything that improves their security - I know this will upset the iPhone fanclub, but as keen as I was to adopt iPhone as a mobile email client, the facts just didnt allow me to.
