using PHP to run scheduled tasks like the ColdFuion Scheduler

I have used ColdFusion in the past using the CFSCHEDULE function to run scheduled tasks or queries each morning.  Is there something similar in PHP to the C.F. Scheduler?

Cron is a time-based job scheduler in Unix-like computer operating systems. The name cron comes from the word "chronos", Greek for "time". Cron enables users to schedule jobs (commands or shell scripts) to run periodically at certain times or dates. It is commonly used to automate system maintenance or administration, though its general-purpose nature means that it can be used for other purposes, such as connecting to the Internet and downloading email.

I'm fairly new to PHP.  Is this something that all hosts offer, or do some have it disabled so tasks can't run automatically?  This site is currently being hosted by Go Daddy.

It depends upon hosting company and your package. Kindly consult with hosting company if they have cron job option.
