can't scan to .pdf document on Brother MFC-490CW

I can't scan a document on the Brother MFC-490CW printer. It works great otherwise.

"scan to e-mail" scans it to a .jpeg file

"scan to OCR" is not what I want

"scan to image" looks like the same as "scan to e-mail"

"scan to file" results in the program "muvee producer" (for videos) showing up.

I'd like to scan to .pdf

Here's the user guide, I couldn't find anything useful in it . . .

It will probably be necessary to scan to an image, then convert the image to PDF format.

Scanning directly to PDF would require the scanner manufacturer to supply licensed PDF conversion software with each scanner, either from Adobe or another PDF conversion software provider.

Was the scanner sold as being able to scan directly to PDF format?

The Brother MFC-490CW allows you to scan and create files as .jpg, .pdf and other document types – no file conversion necessary. Fisrt go to the start menu, locate Brother, then the model, then click on control center. Now you should see a little blue CC icon in the task tray next to the clock in the bottom right corner assuming that you have not move the task bar. double click on the contorl center icon to launch program. then select scan, then file and now you can select pdf.

DrKlahn, no the printer wasn't sold with ".pdf" features. I just came back from a trip where I was scanning to .pdf via another brand (forget which, one of the good ones) and it worked great scanning to .pdf

DCTech85 - I'm not sure I have the Control Center, will look now.

Thanks to both.

I suppose I have the drivers, as both scanning and printing work.

But I don't have the Control Center, and not quite sure where to go to download that.
