I have exchange 2010 server which hold all the exchange roles the server operating system is windows 2008 R2, the server was working all fine till 3 weeks ago , it's just stopped updating OAB so when i create new users mailboxes they do not shown in outlook GAL ,the new users is correctly shown in GAL via exchange web and in outlook via all users & all contacts so when the new user open outlook for the first time the outlook detects the user name & start setting up the account & stopped at logon to the server giving the error of (The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list) & exit the setup ( Same Happen if I tried to setup the account manually and no change if it's cached mode or non cached mode) . Also I can find the user in my HTC mobile using active sync but users with blackberry unable to find him. Plz note when I update the GAL or the OAB via exchange management shell I got no errors but nothing happen, I have no errors in my even viewer log. this happen only to new users everything is totally fine with old users , plz help this is so critical situation.
Hi Marmar,
which outlook version are you using ? 2007 ?
Was it a migration from Exchange 2003 ?
Do you have double checked the OAB Path (Internal and External) to be set up correctly in Exchange 2010 ?
Are you sure that it still was working with this exchange 2010 to set up a new user ?
im using outlook 2007 , & yes it was migrated from exchange 2003 last april & since migration i have faced no problems, i have added & deleted tens of users wz no errors at all. i have checked the internal & external URL & i found that for a reason both URL was pointing to the external URL ,i fixed that buit nothing change , someone of microsoft has advised to run a command to test the outlook web services & i can see an error regarding RPC

this happen after some critical security update on the server & i have no idea what's wrong my DNS is working fine & old users ( migrated users + exchange 2010 native users ) is working fine
Does this happen only for one newly created user or does it happen to any new User Mailbox that you create.
Are you able to login to this Users Mailbox from OWA?
From what you have informed, i see that when you try to configure the profile for this is when you get the Error message. Is that right?

If managing Active Directory using Windows Powershell® is making you feel like you stepped back in time, you are not alone. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why.
This Happen to any new user mailbox , & yes it happen when i configure the profile on outlook only , users can access & use their mailboxes fine from OWA.
Ok, Load the Exchange 2010 CD to the Server.
Navigate to the CD Path using command prompt.
Run the following command.
Setup.com /preparedomain.
Now see if you are able to configure the Outlook Profile Manually for a new User.
Also if it is possible try getting a Outlook 2003 Client within the Domain and try configuring the profile there.
This is check if it is a problem with the Auto Discover or a Problem with Address Book.
yes, i got the error (The operation failed , an object cannot be found) & please not this is a recent behavior i have been working smoothly for 8 months.
Ok on the Exchange Server -> Open EMC -> Organization Configuration -> Database -> Right Click on the Database and choose Properties -> CLient Settings.
Check if it is pointing to the right Offline Address Book.
C -> Program Files -> Microsoft -> Exchange Server -> ExchangeOAB Folder.
In this Folder there would be a Sub Folder with some Random GUID Value.
Open that Folder and Check if there are LZX Files.
Check the Date Modified and see when was it last Modified.
Yes right. Once we are able to fix the error with the Download OAB then it means that we are able to Download the OAB to Outlook Clients.
That should fix the problem.
I checked the LZX files , i have 4 subfolders with Guid , 1- last modified on 21/11 , 2- last modified 3/5 , the oth 2 subfolders modified 2/12 but only one of them contain OAB file
Ok but do you have the new LZX files in the CAS Folder.
We should get having those files in the OAB Folder, in CAS.
Only then the Outlook Clients would be able to download the Address Book.
when i test the outlook web services the auto discover working fine , & outlook working ok, only this RPC error
please check my log at the begining of this post, the rest of tests pass ok
& what test u want me to run from my outlook client?
as u know im old user so im working fine but can't find the new user in my outlook gal & by the way to let a new user work on outlook , i have used an old mail box for an ex-user i edit the alias & the new email generated & the new user was able to use outlook wz his email adddress but we staill unable to find him in GAL , i hope i didn't lose u in my explanation
On the Client Machine where you have Outlook 2007 try the following.

Click on the Log Tab.
Copy and Past the Output here.
I have attached both autodiscover test in the exchange autodiscover remote connectivity & the outlook test

is autodiscover should be done to my email domain or my internal domain or both?
i have mydomain.local as my internal domain
mydomain.com is my external domain & it has the autodiscovered record & outlook anywhere & web exchange from outside organization working fine .
when i test outlook autoconfiguration from my workstation at the office i get error in autodiscover , so is it mydomain.local autodiscover or my mydomain.com autodiscover ?
I don't think that the Update could have caused this.
Looks like the Auto Discover is the one causing problem.
Try the following on one of the Internal Work Stations.
Add the following Entry on the Host File on the Work Station.
mydomain.local IP Address (Of CAS Server)
Then do ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns
Do another Test Auto Configuration and see if are still getting the same error message.
I have done the above steps but nothing new , still same error
how this will be related to host file if we were working fine for the past 8 months?
plus i already saw a post on expert-exchange for someone said there is update related to .net which affect these 3 items ( OOA , OAB , free/busy information ) but i lost the post & im unable to get it back!
& im now able to download OAB & OOF is working fine , also test outlook auto configuration pass successfully , but i still got this RPC error when i test outlook webservices & still new users not shown in my GAL via outlook but working fine in OWA GAL
this is the only error i got now any other test pass fine
any help?

On the Exchange Server, try updating the Offline Address Book.
Then restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant Service and Microsoft Exchange File Distribution Service.
Then download the Offline Address Book again on the Outlook and see for the new users.

i didn't delete the address book but i have created a new one & assigned that database to use it , i have update this new OAB & i found no error in the application log, i have downloaded the OAB from outlook wz no errors , but still the new users is not shown in outlook GAL, i have added the all contacts to the New OAB & updated & still same same....:(
The new User that you are referring to, is it a uer with a Mailbox.
Try Creating a test user with Mailbox.
Update the Offline Address Book.
Restart the Microsoft Exchange File Distribution Service, Microsoft Exchange Address Book Service and Microsoft Exchange System Attendant Service.
Check from the Outlook and OWA.
See if you are able to see this Test User Mailbox that we have created.
i have tried the steps exactly as u advised the user was shown from OWA but not from outlook , if i want to display it from outlook i have to use all contacts not GAL, :(
Ok from the Screen Shots that you have attached, we see that Test.User is shown from OWA.
But when we check the same from Outlook you don't see Test.User.
First can you check Outlook in Online Mode.
See if we are able to see the Test.User
If we are able to see Test.User in Online Mode then put Outlook in Cache Mode.
Then Download the Offline Address Book again.
See if you are able to see the Test.User there.
If the Test.User is visible in OWA then we should be able to see the same test.user in Outlook in Online Mode.
The reason being OWA and Outlook in Online Mode gets the information directly from GAL.
But when it comes to Outlook in Cache Mode, it uses Offline Address Book.
Here the OAB is downloaded to the Outlook and we would be able to see the User.
So if the Test.User is seen in OWA then it should be seen in Outlook when in Online Mode as both uses the same GAL.
This Outlook Machine i a domain joined machine right. :)
yes of course , u gotta be kidding asking this q...:) but i gave u excuse coz this is seem not logic but this happen from all machines it's not a machine related issue & this coz a user like test.user to be unable to use outlook to retrive his emails as setting up his profile will give error message saying (the name cannot be matched to a name in the address list ) but u have to know when u use all contacts or all users in outlook u can c this test.user guy!!!!!
The user shows up in GAL from Outlook Web Access but not from Outlook.
Also when you try to configure the Outlook Profile for this user you get the above mentioned error message.
Im not so sure what screen shot u need but test.user can be shown in all users & all contacts so im attached a 2 screen shots listing test.user one by all users & one by all contacts
Thanks for the Screen Shots.
This gives me a better picture.
So what we are seeing is that many Users are missing from the Global Address List on Outlook.
But then they are visible under All Users and All Contacts.
yes absloutely right , this happen let us say at the start of last month since this any new user face this problem so for critical new user i enable a disables old mailbox & rename the aliac wz the new user name & it works at this point the user is listed & can be easily use outlook otherwise my new users use only OWA...
You would be needing the OABValidate.exe Tool to get a list of Deleted HomeMTA Attributes.
We would not be able to manually check the same from ADSIEDIT.
And unfortunately the Tool can be obtained only from Microsoft and not from any other links to download as it would be against the Microsoft Policies. :(
Yes, i can see that at the link you posted ...:( i don't know what to do now im already following up the case wz a Microsoft Guy & he didn't help so far .
it's not a case number it's just threat on the social microsoft support site, & he was the one who directed me to this OALGen error but i got no reply from him since 2 days so im searching for alternative utility like OABinteg.exe & waiting for his answer regarding the solution of this problem , i wish i could know what caused this to avoide in futrure!!
You can run the OABINTEG.exe File on Exchange 2010 Server.
No Issues.
After running this tool it should show all the users for whom the HomeMTA attributes that are pointed wrongly.
Once you clear them the issue should be resolved.
only today i almost solve it, some update change the attrbuites in active directory , if i used an old active directory user account as template the new user created using this template work fine , so what im gonna do is to compare the attrbuites in both new & old accounts to know where is the change. but at least now i can let a new user use outlook & shown in outlook GAL.
The attrbuite in question is ShowInAddressBook there is a missing address list when i added it the user become visible in Outlook GAL & able to connect to outlook but i have no idea how to fix it globally so far i have to edit it manually for each new user, is there any idea how to do so?
i don't have users facing this problem now , what i need is when i create new user it created using the correct active directory attribute...is that possible? or do i have to modify it manually for each new user i create?
which outlook version are you using ? 2007 ?
Was it a migration from Exchange 2003 ?
Do you have double checked the OAB Path (Internal and External) to be set up correctly in Exchange 2010 ?
Are you sure that it still was working with this exchange 2010 to set up a new user ?
