How to check if Visual Studio installation CD has been installed before

I have purchased Visual Studio 2008 on ebay and the seller claimed it was sealed and when CD arrived, the seal was broken. I want to know if there is a way to check if anyone used it for installation before, before selling it to me. Can anyone help?

I would guess that you could call MS and confirm. Per MS chat representative:

For assistance in validating the product key of Visual Studio, you may call our Professional Support at 800-936-4900. They are open for operations Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Pacific Time.

when I tried installing it, it installed without a problem but does that mean it was not installed somewhere else?

Is there an easier way to find out? I know calling MS can take hours

I imagine you could install it and wait to see if the Windows Genuine app detects it as being "software that might not be genuine", but I think the safer route would be to call. Think of it this way:  you could try a method like WG and get a *potentially* correct answer, then find out just after your return policy with the auction site expires the key is bogus and be forced to buy a new key anyway; or you can spend the couple of hours with MS and get an official answer.

I know it's not great news, but at this point, I would think you'd want to be safe than sorry  :)
