I'm looking for a free tool that would regularly ping one or more IPs and send an email if unsuccessful. Even better would be something that can also telnet mail servers to make sure they are working. Can you please recommend anything?<br />

The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.
