SharePoint 2007 profile - Add attribute not in AD

We have our SSP set up to populate many attributes from AD to SharePoint.  Some are custom attributes in AD and everything works fine.
Now I've been asked to include information NOT in AD.  The information is available in a SQL database and there is a common demoninator (Employee ID).
How can I add this additional information into the user profiles?
Thanks
Ron

A couple of options spring to mind that may help you to solve this:
1. Use the BDC - there is an article on populating user profiles from the BDC here: http://statto1974.wordpress.com/2007/11/02/using-the-bdc-to-populate-user-profiles-from-a-sql-server-database-part-two/
2. If the BDC solution is not going to work, then I would consider adding the information into AD (this may involved a schema change to AD, or you may be able to use an existing unused field), and then mapping it through using the standard mapping. You would then need to setup some sort of script to update the AD field from your SQL DB as required.

I haven't actually tried either of these, but that is where I would start investigating....

Hope this helps...
