Event ID 4006 - Unable to send email to some domains

I have Event ID 4006 on my Exchange server and I noticed some emails on being held on the server.

Example:
Message delivery to the host '66.186.210.88' failed while delivering to the remote domain  'dailypromoproducts.com' for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt.

It is important I get this resolved right away...

Thanks

Are you able to resolve the domain address?

1.  Try http://www.mxtoolbox.com/  to see what it gets for IP
2. Open a Command prompt on your server, and do this:
---nslookup
---set type=mx
---[domain name]

It should match what you saw online, if it doesn't, you likely have DNS issues. If it does match, try a simple 'telnet [domain ip] 25'  to attempt to directly connect on port 25 to the destination...if it doesn't answer, you might be blocked by a firewall (or other issue) or routed wrong

Also check to see if you are on any blacklists...we've rejected mail a few times from others for that reason

No, I checked if we are blacklisted and we aren't. I will check the rest now and get you the results.

This is not an issue on your side (unless you are in charge of dailypromoproducts.com).  Here are the results of my test:

Your 1 MX record is:
10 mail.dailypromoproducts.com. [TTL=3600] IP=66.186.210.88 [TTL=3600] [US]

ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers!
mail.dailypromoproducts.com: Timed out [Last data sent: [Did not connect]]

Ok, I checked the our domain on mstoolbox.com and it came back with the following:
10   mail.domain.com    174.xxx.xxx.xxx     60 min

When I try to do a nslookup on the server I get the following:
"Can't find server name for address 192.xxx.xxx.xxx which is the IP of our server"

The RDNS is setup with mail.domain.com and is pointing to the ISP IP Address which is 174.xxx.xxx.xxx, and is configured on our Netgear Prosafe Firewall. Is this setup correctly or do I need to reconfigure something? The company that is hosting our website has a different IP so should it be pointing to there server  68.xxx.xxx.xxx?

We have a Untangle server in place for SPAM filtering and I added the IP of that server in relay of the Exchange/DNS server. When I sent a test message from the Untangle server I am able to send off of the network so I don't think that is blocking anything.

mail.dailypromoproducts.com is down.  Unless that is is your server (is it?), there is nothing you can do to send mail to it.

wdurrett:,
I am having issues with emails going outbound to AOL accounts.

Th domain you tested and 2 others stay in the que all the time but now I have AOL emails being held.

csciarroAuthor Commented:
No, that isn't our server.
Another domain that is being held is "list3.mleesmith.com"

The AOL emails are the important ones since we have users that use there AOL accounts on the network.

If mail is flowing to other mail servers, that means you have your mailserver setup correctly.  I woudl not worry about some mail servers being down - It happens all the time.

As far as the the AOL messages are concerned, do you have a report on why they are being held?

Ok..that is a good sign since I was going crazy with those. Could there be just a long delay with the AOL emails? I know they are important emails and I don't want them being delayed.

csciarroAuthor Commented:
It is the same report as the others...just with AOL's IP.

csciarroAuthor Commented:
Let me know if you need the AOL IP to test....

The AOL emails are now flowing on Exchange...I don't know what caused the long delay.

Ok. How do I prevent certain email domains from sending email from our Exchange Server since they just stay in the Que?
