If the hosts file is not there (what can I do?)

Where is it in vista?

If its not there (even with invisible files showing, a virus perhaps may have moved it offside)
(Hijack this says its not there and Ive looked and its not)

If this is the case what the best virus fixer there is to return it?

The HOSTS file is optionally, and usually not there or populated with entries. Nothing to worry about, as long as you did not manage it yourself.
