Crop picture

I design my own cards using publisher and copy the pictures from the Internet. Usually the pictures that is copies from Internet have the white background around the real picture/object that you're interested in. How do I get rid of the white thing around it? How do I convert the picture to clip art?

1- select the picture
2 picture tool bar appear
3-choose Set Transparent Color and click on the picture
