Hi shredhar
Thanks for your input I have tried connecting a pop3 mailbox with - Outlook Express. but its not working,
its returning following error

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.xx.com', Server: 'mail.xx.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Any idea why this should error?

I will try with mozilla and see if works there

Reading around i looks like it may have something to do with your av program, have you tried turning things like av off and client firewall off
Try connecting via telnet also see if it challenges you for authentication (ie makes a connection)

In Outlook Express:

1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts...

2. A box will appear. Click Add and select Mail.

3. Enter your name as you want it to appear on your emails and click Next.

4. Put in your email address, which consists of a user you set up in webmail and @yourdomain.xyz, and then click Next.

5. Set the server type as POP3.

6. For incoming and outgoing mail servers, enter mail.yourdomain.xyz (where yourdomain.xyz is your domain name and extension such as .com).

7. Click on Next.

8. Enter your email address for the Account Name. Enter the password you set for this account.
Note: Do NOT check the box "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".

9. Click Next and then click Finish. After you click Finish, you should see the following window. If not, go to the Tools menu, and click on Accounts. After clicking Accounts the window will appear. In this window, click on your domain until it is highlighted, then click on Properties.

10. When the next screen appears, click on the Servers tab. Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box next to My server requires authentication. Click Okay. Note: You MUST do this step so you can send mail from your domain.

11. Now, you're ready to send and receive mail. To set up multiple accounts, follow these steps again

The mail pop account you are using may need to use a different port than standard for receiving or sending email (or both). You should check with the specific host of the POP accounts regarding ports & also whether security is needed.

For example, gmail uses ssl for the pop receiving on port 995 and for receiving on 465.  The error you report could mean you need SSL to send on SMTP but the port needs to be changed to something other than 25.

This can be done as amateusn described above for Outlook Express and there is a similar approach with Mozilla. Mozilla may automatically detect the settings needed for your email host so you should consider trying that program.

In most cases this is caused by the AV, to test disable mail scan on your AV and try to connect again.

Try increasing the connection time "timeout" to something like 60 seconds.  Sometimes the 15 second timeout causes a disconnect like this.

hope this helps.

Can you send a screen shot of the following?

Open Outlook then go to accounts and choose your account then click 'Change'  send the screenshot of the dialog you see.

Then choose 'More settings' and click on the advanced tab and send a screenshot of that window.
