Hi
i have been brought in a n Acer aspire 7520 Laptop for repair - basically on boot-up the screen comes on for a few seconds and then dims from one side to the other and remains dim. you can just about see the desktop Icons. Laptop is running windows vista, below is listed the steps I have already tried.

attached external monitor - this works fine but still dim screen on laptop
Have tried possible FN key combintaions - still no joy
have replaced the inverter - same problem
have replaced the screen - same issue
have checked all the cabling to screen and main borad this all appears to be OK
at a loss as to what i should check next - could this be a maqinboard issue?

any help will be greatly appreciated

thank you

Check this site, seems other people have the same kind of issues with this model (among other models from Acer). http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/topic10177.html
Was interested in this post particularly.

"Didn't think it would work but it did. Tried to open the case to see why but couldn't get it off. What I did find is that if you remove the motherboard cover, the large one on the bottom, there are two wires, on white and one black, coming from under the battery compartment to a rectangular, component near the speaker. I happened to catch on of these and it came off the componet. It wasn't soldered but is a push fit onto a small fastening. Replaced that and the laptop has now rebooted over two days without any problems at all. Check these wires, they may look OK but could be failing to make a good contact."

Hi
I have just opened up the the laptop and reseated everything including the cabling which all appeared to be connected OK (the cabling refered to in the link that you gave me was the antenna wires for the wireless card). Unfortunately the problem still remains, anything else I can check?

thanks
