excel 2007 themes

We have recently changed to Office 2007. I find  the appearance of the colors and fonts very washed out and hard to read. For example when I select a range of rows in excel 2007 I can barely see what has been selected. I have tried the various 'themes" but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions would be most appreciated
