Outlook and Blackberry contacts

I have a user that has lost some of his contacts on his phone.  Any contact that he previously added on the phone is gone, though Outlook/Exchange still have the contacts.  If you add a new contact on the phone, it does sync back to Outlook.  The user says it takes a few days for the contact to disappear on the phone again.  All the contacts entered in Outlook are synced to the phone.

I opened a ticket with Blackberry and got no where.

Today, the user exported all his outlook contacts to an Excel file.  Outlook shows 2600 contacts, but the Excel document shows 1800 contacts.  Is this related to the user's missing contacts?

The user moved to an iphone, so the issue went away.  Thanks for the help
