I just got a new 64 bit computer, fresh out of the box today. It has Win7 Home Premium pre-installed and works fine. I have not connected to my network yet so it has not reached the Internet to register.

I also have aq copy of 64 bit Win 7 Professional I bought about 2 weeks ago before I found this new/better computer on a great Black Friday deal.

I want to upgrade the Home Premium to Professional using my purchased disk. What I want to know is if its better to just clear the disk using DBAN or Acronis to securely erase and then install the new OS, or if I can stick the Professional disk in and have it upgrade the existing Home Premium. I'm also not sure if that works that way.

My only concern is that although the computer came with a Windows Recovery Disk (not original Home Premium on its own disk) and disks for the graphics card, sound, etc. that I may lose something important. I'm also not sure I can get back to Home Premium using the Home Premium recovery disk if something goes wrong.
