Audacity says it will remove static, hiss, hum, or other constant background noises. Since it's free, it wouldn't hurt to try it. It is available for Mac and Windows.

I have a DVD of a speech given and recorded by a consumer video camera. I would like very much to enhance the sound by eliminating as much background noise as possible and enhancing what the speaker said, if this is possible.<br />

I have the Mac DVD Studio Pro, if that's a help.<br />
<br />
I wouldn't mind getting some inexpensive software to supplement or replace what I have.<br />

I prefer doing this on Mac.<br />
