Can I replace my hp media center m7260n with windows xp pro

I want to reformat and clean my hp media center m7260n computer. But I can't get the recovery application in the computer to write the recovery files to a disk. Can I replace my hp media center m7260n operating system with my windows xp pro operating system? I am not interested in the media center. I only want to use this computer to process music with mixcraft, presonus audiobox and melodyne editor.

Sure. You just need a valid XP CD and a valid XP Key. Be sure to look on their website for drivers.XP Media Center Edition uses the same drivers as XP

Guys, thank you for your response.
I do have the disk. I think you are saying that everything would work as it does now, except I would not have the HP tools that HP loads on the harddrive. Is that correct? I am sure you can see that I am a little nervous in regards to reformatting the disk........... Please advise, thank you.

The HP tools can be easily removed from Add/Remove programs - along with anything else that was preloaded, however, a reinstall with a Retail disk would give you a very clean XP to work from.  No need to be nervous ... we at EE are always here to help you during your reinstall, if needed :)
