COW algebra problem
COW x COW = DEDCOW
The task is to find the digits associated with each letter which then satisfies the relation. The (a?) solution is:
376 × 376=141376
and this is easily attained with a computer, but is there an analytic way of deducing it? The furthest I've managed so far is to deduce that W must be either 1, 5 or 6. Progress!

625 doesn't work because D would have to equal both 3 and 0. The asker already talked about using code to find the answer.

On further analysis, the solution to the Problem COW * COW = DEDCOW can either be:
376 * 376 = 141376
OR
625 * 625 = 390625
However, since the first three digits are DED, that means the first solution where 1 is repeated for every D that appears in DED is the only alternative solution. Therefore,
COW * COW = DEDCOW
is
376 * 376 = 141376
Hope my analysis helps

I meant in the case of 76.

Thanks for all comments, particularly those from Tommy.
I had in fact gotten a bit further myself but shamefully struggled dealing with the modulo side of things.

therefore COW * COW = DEDCOW
Probably, and this I am only intuitively guessing, that 376, is the only three digit number that when multiplied by itself, will give 376 as the last three digits. If this is true, then the first three digits are the only ones you can replace for DED when the answer is arrived at.
Hope my analysis helps !!
