Hello

Not sure what has occured but all of a sudden server 2000 is up but users/clients cannot connect to server drive or really logon to server. If i try to map a drive to server now, I get a message 'there are currently no Logon Servers available to service the logon request"

This server is the PDC.

Please advise.

Check the event log entries, run dcdiag and see what messages you are getting there too.

Do you have other domain controllers

Thanks

Mike
Check the 2000 box to see if there is a SYSVOL share.

Under System:
Dynamic registration or deregistration of one or more DNS records failed because no DNS servers are available.
The PrintQueue Container could not be found because the DNS Domain name could not be retrieved.  Error: 54b

Under Directory Service:
Unable to establish connection with global catalog.

Brief history of recent changes, about 1 week back:

- attempted to establish a trust relationship between the 2000 domain we are having trouble with, and a 2008 domain.  The two networks are connected by VPN.
- FIrst step was DNS.  Added a secondary forwarder to the 2008 domain and configured the 2008 domain to do the zone transfer.  Then added a stub to the 2008 domain and modified the 2000 domain to do zone transfers.
- attempted to add two way trust using the 2008 wizard.  selected the option for the wizard to do the configs on both sides.  Wizard said it could not do the trusts.  So we stopped, but left the DNS forwarders in place.
-the problem above started after the 2000 DC apparently re-booted after  a power failure.  We then removed the forwarders and zone transfers from each domain.  no change, problem still exists.   We did notice when deleting the stub on the 2008 DC  that the AD integration box was checked .  Didn't intend to do that.

Hope this helps...
Thanks for your help so far!

Is your DNS service and NetLogon service running on the 2000 DC?
Also, how's your disk space on the 2000 server?

Is your DNS service and NetLogon service running on the 2000 DC?  Yes, and Yes

Also, how's your disk space on the 2000 server?  2.5GB available on C:  9.4GB on D.  I'd have to ask why, but C and D both have a WinNT folder, D's WinNT  has  a SYSVOL under it.
