I personally have a 500GB SATA 3.0 drive in mine.

Its a simple process of swapping them out.  it took me 3 mins.

But make sure you back everything up if you want to keep it all.
I have done some research for you...

There are people that can confirm that the 1TB drives work fine. also

here is a video of a 2TB in a ps3 and working

hope this all helps!

Happy gaming!

I don't care about saving files. I am rebuilding a ps3 at my store. I have a tech shop and I want to get this figured out perfectly so I can offer PS3 upgrades out of my place. That persons video sucked because they didn't offer any information on how to do the 2tb upgrade. The "dudes" seemed a bit dicky. Im sure with some research ill find out how to do it myself as they have. If that thick headed gamer can do it,  then between here and other sites ill figure it out as well.

My next question is how do I get a PC to recognize a PS3 hard drive so I can save the files
The drive replacement is really easy its a quick swap. and the ps3 will do the rest.

"My next question is how do I get a PC to recognize a PS3 hard drive so I can save the files"

That is more complicated.
The internal HDD is an encrypted EXT3.  So no pc will be able to read it.  its encrypted like what IBM does with there drives.  If I am not mistaken the encrypting key is stored in the Hyper Visor.

External drives must be formatted in FAT32 for the pc and the ps3 to read.

There is a work around though for reading files off the internal HDD.
You must Jailbreak your PS3 and as of right now you have to be at firmware < 3.41
after you jailbreak you can install a FTP server on the ps3.

to jailbreak you need to get a USBKey of sorts.  I personally have a AT90USBKey with the PL4 bin installed.

Now if you dont want to do it that way then...

get a USB External HDD and then format it in Fat32.  turn on the System and then plug in the external HDD and the through the PS3s gui you can press Triangle and then copy the files to the External HDD then you can read the files from a pc.

Hope this helps.
