PS3 will not power on or boot

The process I fallow and the results:

Complete assembled PS3 with 40GB HDD

On initial Plug in - the PS3 will sit at a red light

When you press the power button - Red turns to green then to yellow and then it blinks red along with three beeps.

Probably a heat error - is it still under warranty?

The solution is, there is no solution. When someone has one re-post the question and answer it. I'm stating to doubt the exchange team
That issue is the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death)

It means that either your GPU / CPU on the PS3 motherboard had overheated.

Now either chip (or both) need to be "reflowed" i.e. using a heat gun.

If it's under warranty I would not suggest opening the unit.

If it is out of warranty there are many DIY guides available for "Ps3 ylod reflow"

I believe a guide was released also by "gilksy"

Research first, as most guides are "guess work"

Here's some more information from my post on playstation forums on how I specifically heat the board.

The method works although I have about 5 ps3s where the issue is re occurring after every few months. This may be a cause of a burnt chip and in that case from what I have found a process called "re balling" your chips is required.

From what I have researched "re balling" your bga (gpu + cpu) chips is not cost effective to do on just one ps3 since some pricey parts have to be purchased. It is worth it though if you repair PS3s consistently to purchase the additional parts required for a re ball.

I hope this helps
