XenDesktop 3 with vCenter 4.0 U2 - Can't see virtual machines?

We have a small pilot XenDesktop (v3) installation up an running.  The current desktops are hosted on a XenServer and everything seems to be working decently.

The XenServer is getting a little cramped for space, and we have some VMware servers (ESX 3.5) that have plenty of capacity.  The ESX servers are managed through a vCenter server that is at version 4.0 Update 2.

I have walked through the configuration steps outlned in multiple places online and have been able to get XenDesktop to see the vCenter server, but it is not able to see any virtual machines in the VMware world.  Would appreaciate an assist...

Here is what happens....

1. Configure new Desktop Group in XenDesktop DDC, and point it to 'http://vCenterServerAddress/sdk' using an account within a properly defined role.

2.  The role is defined as outline in the 'Using VMware Infrastructure 3 with
Desktop Delivery Controller' whitepaper from Citrix

3. The wizard connects to vCenter and pulls up a list with a selection tree

4. My vSphere 'data center' appears in the list, but none of my Virtual Machines hosted in that data center are displayed.

What is the step I am missing?
