high cpu usage wsusservice and sql
I have a client running SBS 2008 with 16 gig of memory. They are running SQL Express 2005. At first they ran a small SQL app but it has grown. If I had known I would have recommended another server for sql.
There are only 10 users.
The CPU is always at or near 100%. Wsusservice and sqlserver are taking most of it.. Sometimes LSASS.exe is also very high.
After a week or so it gets so bad we have to reboot the server
I understand SQL and Exchange do not coexist well on the same server but as I said, this server only has 10 users. Is there something I can do to control this?
Would upgrading to SQL standard help?
Why would wsusservice take so much CPU?

Nothing in the logs
In add remove programs it says WSUS 3 SP2 is installed. I just noticed that when I select
sycnronizations, it says 191,233 synchronization and nothing shows up. It has been 15 minutes and still nothing
I ran SBSBPA and it says WSUS v3 is RTM. Automatic approvals is set to approve wsus updates

Have you tried throttling memory usage for SQL?

Sure. If you have chosen against recommended best practices to share the same box for SQL Server with other apps, than your only choice is to cripple SQL Server by setting the max memory used. But keep in mind that SQL Server Express cannot use more than 1 GB (in reality it is more like 1.4GB).

I resolved the problem by resetting the WSUS database
Anything in the eventlogs?
Please run the SBSBPA to see what's going on.
