Microsoft Partner

I am an IT consultant - started fixing people's computers a decade ago, and have expanded what I do since then as my experience has grown.  I now do a little of everything.  I am going to be relocating soon and I am trying to decide how to best market myself in a new area.  My main question is about the Microsoft Partner Network.  I've never really looked into it and am wondering what it's all about.  I see there are several "levels" of Microsoft Partners but can one simply "join" the Network and put it on a resume/qualifications list?  Obviously, I could read the dozens of pages on the MPN site, but what I'd like is just a quick summary of the program and how it might benefit (if at all) a one-man-consultant small business.

I've got a handful of MS certifications, so I should be able then to join as a Partner.  The Action Pack subscription thing is pretty cool - pretty dang low price for production software.  I'll leave this open until tomorrow to see if I can get some more comments.  Thanks much.
