GFI Faxmaker 12 not sending outgoing faxes

We have GFI Faxmaker 12 (on XP Pro) and had to complete restore to new hardware from a backup.  I have been successful at getting incoming faxes to be received and routed via email.  What I am having problems with is that outgoing faxes sent from the gfi faxmaker client are not being sent out.  The faxmaker client creates an email and drops it in the IIS SMTP "Drop" folder and just sits there.  I don't see it in the GFI Faxmaker Monitor queue, which is what i would normally expect.

IIS SMTP (on same box) seems to be working ok becuase I can send email via outlook express (on same box) using the the localhost as the outgoing smtp server. So as far as i can tell SMTP is relaying emails correctly. We do not have an internal email server or exchange server.  Our email is pop.

I have created the (local)alias "faxmaker.com" and "smsmaker.com" in IIS Virtual SMTP and added our domain name as the remote and configured it with the smarthost IP address.

I have configured GFI email gateway with the ip information of our email service provider.

When I open the .eml from the drop folder i see that it is addressed to "fax@faxmaker.com <fax@faxmaker.com>"   I suspect that maybe this has something to do with it but I do not see where in GFI I can modify this to fax@ourdomain.com.

I should also note that I added a "fax@faxmaker.com" account to outlook express and used the localhost smtp to relay the email it it worked ok but emails from the GFI faxmaker client do not.

Matter of fact are out going faxes even suppose to go through smtp?

I seem to vaguely remember a similar issue a few years back and it had to do something with the a GFI sinkdrop?
