Publish website on the internet.

Hi,

I built a website on my local machine. I want to publish it to my domain.

I own a domain hosting on GoDaddy.com. I want to know what are the steps involved in the process.

After hosting a website on GoDaddy, do I need to install CMS like Joomla or Wordpress on my domain before publishing my .aspx pages?

There's no such thing as a "domain hosting". You either own a domain (the www.[something].com address), or a hosting account that enables you to upload files to a webserver. In order to have a website you need both.

In order to have ASP files running on the server you will need ASP support enabled by your hosting provider (in this case, godaddy) on your current plan. The godaddy hosting plans are described here: http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx

To be able to run asp you will need the windows hosting plan (not the linux plan) on godaddy.

You do not need Wordpress or Joomla.

After making sure you own the proper hosting account, use a FTP software (I use Filezilla - http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client ) to transfer your files to your account.

Hello Atipico,

Thank you for your comment. I already have Windows hosting plan and ASP support is enabled. I can download the Filezilla. GoDaddy also provides FTP to transfer the files. I can use either of those.

If I go to Hosting Dashboard of my site on Godaddy, there is an option for Uploading Files. Should I just upload my files from here? Or do i need to do something else?
