Typing Spanish letters on an English keyboard

I was happy to get a laptop with a number pad because I thought I would be able to use the ALT key and some numbers to type Spanish characters (like ALT165 for ñ ).

But is seems that hitting ALT 6 takes me back to a previous web page. Any ideas what causes that or what I can do to change it? Thanks. It's a Dell Inspiron, windows 7, using Firefox 3.6

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Make sure you have numlock on - it should work (does for me on various laptops).

It works!

I never knew that I needed number lock on, since I never had a laptop with a number pad. Cool!
