Win 7 64 bit using a HP P3005 XP share

Ok, so I'n trying to access an HP printer that's shared on a 32 bit Win XP Pro computer from a Win7 64 bit computer.

It looks as though it'll only use the UPD PCL6 drivers available on the HP site but they don't work. I have several versions downloaded but there are no .inf files that will work. I contunie to get errors when I point the add printer wizard at the doownloaded and expanded driver files. Any ideas as to how to get around this?

The basic error message is that Windows can't find the proper .inf files...

Is the HP Printer LAN Enabled and you're using the XP computer that's already connected to it as a connection?  Or can I assume you're actually USBed into the Printer via the XP Workstation and trying to get connected?

If it's LAN Enabled, but plugged into the XP Computer, have you tried installing it directly via the TCP/IP port?

Just a work-around, not an exact solution to your issue.

Have you tried doing:

Hit Start
Run
Type in the following:
\\IPofXPWorkstation\
Hit enter and it should show the shared printer.
Right-click on the Printer and hit "Connect".  This should automatically find the drivers for you.

If not, my work-around might still work for you.

That's how I've been trying to add it, connecting to the print share with explorer. I don't have physical access to the printer...so.I don't know if it's got a ethernet port.

I'm not sure what I need to do to get the universal print driver to work through a 32 bit XP print share. Very frustrating...

Right answer, but not in HP's case....they don't support Sharing a XP print share to a 64 bit Win 7 workstation! Yep, straight from their tech support....
