new laptop battery wont charge

Hello,

The battery would only charge to 85%, so I bought a replacement.  Put in the replacement, and plug in the ac adapter.   The battery light is on red for a few minutes, then goes out.  Power management tellss me I got 0% juice in the new battery.

Computer will only run on adapter now.

Help  Thanks

Do you know anyone that has the same computer so you can try out their computer?  Try swapping out the known good with the unknowns.  Example: Good Computer, Good Battery, put your battery in that computer and see if it charges/picks it up.  Or put the good battery into your computer and see if it picks it up as a fully charged battery.

My laptop is the only one of this model I've ever seen
There's a few 3rd party programs that offer a simple battery test.  Try googling:

XP battery tester

tried it  -wont download without doing a scan.  no way!  Geek Squad here I come.

Thanks
Are you worried about getting a virus?

I would say download it (don't run it yet), and then scan the file with your AV program.  Your computer shouldn't auto run it, just hit "Save" instead.

It's pretty safe, especially things from Brothersoft.  The Geek Squad will cost you a lot more money.

The replacement battery is a lithium Ion battery and I dont know if the original was or not, but power management has a red circle with a line through the battery icon
