What is model of printer?

A few things to check:
1. Do you have the correct driver for the printer model?
2. Is the driver up to date?
3. Is the printer set to print directly to the printer or spool the job (under printer properties in Windows?

I think it has something to do with the print dirver but I don't know how anything could have happened to it because no users are able to do anything with the drivers.
Directly attached printer or network?
network, its hp aswell
With HP, try changing the drive to PCL5 (if this is an option).    I have seen a number of printers have issues with the PCL6 drivers.    Also, if you are using the Universal drive, try the specific driver for the model of printer you are using.

In terms of network, directly to the printer or through a server?

TRY THIS;
IF YOU HAVE POOLING ON TURN IT OFF AND TRY.
iF POOLING IS NOT ON, TURN IT ON AND THEN TRY
aLSO REDUCE THE RESOLUTION 1200DPI MAY BE TOO HIGH
ALSO IIF ALL ELSA FAIL TRY REDUSING THE PDF VOLUME BY CONVERTING TO A SELF EXTRACTING zIP FILE.

tHE MORE EXPENSIVE THE PRINTER GENRALLY COME WITH THE ABILTY TO ADD MORE MEMORY i ASSUME THIS IS NOT THE CASE.

HOPE THIS HELPS

If the printer supports PostScript, using the PostScript driver will eliminate any memory problem. If it is a PCL printer, try selecting a lower resolution.

Two other possibilities:
1. You can try selecting "Print as image" under the Advanced button in the Acrobat print dialogue box
2.  Under the Advanced tab in printer Properties (from Printers & Faxes), untick "enable advanced printer features"
-> Try a different driver.
For example if you are currently using a PCL driver, try PostScript
