How do I customize the left hand menu Google Map with KML file?

How can I customize the left menus in a Google map with a KML file.  Is there an element I can define in the KML file at the top where I it pulls the data and formatting from each record?

Thanks for your help.

if i understand correctly, you would like to create a menu from the kml data, if so
use (parse) the kml file like a normal xml file
here is an example , how to use xml and google maps/menu:

you can find other examples on this site: http://econym.org.uk/gmap/

hope i understand correctly your question

From the looks of the tutorial it's using the API instead of just importing a KML file.  Also, it seems to be about customizing the balloon info.  Is the "infowindow" referenced in the tutorial link the left column menu or the balloon info?

I am attaching an image of what I am trying to accomplish.  I am mapping crime data for a city.  In my pic you can see the left column menu for each marker is the same information as the balloon.  I know how to modify the balloon info, but I want the left hand column menu to have less information and be formatted.

I am using Google Fusion Tables to generate the KML file and I will modify it in UltraEdit before I import it into Google Maps.

I have been investigating this and I don't think you can modify the left hand menus with a KML file.

Thank you...
