Inventory control in POS

Hi
I am developing a POS by using Visual Basic and MS Access 2007.
I need some help in handling database / Logic issues.

when one item will be scanned, i want to pull purchase and sale price and record it with that transaction.
where to pull these prices from???
i can pull SALE PRICE from Product_Info table, where i stored that value when i registered that product first time, and have given option to change by admin as required, but PURCHASE PRICE can vary every time product is purchased, so how to decide PURCHASE PRICE????
Also please comment on SALE PRICE technique i mentioned above.

Normally you have table with prices (Product ID, Date and Sale Price), in query you can select latest price for every ID and use it.
But if you have a lot of products, your query can work too slowly and it may be better to store latest price in the main table with products every time, when you are changing it.
Purchase price is stored in table, where incoming invoices are stored.
What product is sold, can be determined in different ways.
If your products have no individual number or something like it, usually for sale are used FIFO (first in, first out) or LIFO (last in, last out) methods.

Thanks for reply.

but if i search PURCHASE PRICE ( using LIFO or FIFO) from invoices, it will slow the process again, same as you mentioned for sales. or if i store it in separate table then i need to update purchase price as well time by time, as i need to change sale price???
