blackberry 9700 missing maps icon/application

hi, guys.

during the past 3 days, i have been so frustrated in installing the Maps/GPS on my blackberry 9700. i'm live here in dubai and unfortunately appworld is not available here.

i bought an unlocked blackberry 9700 without any operator logo (eg. most of the bb 9700 here are having t-mobile or vodafone logo). when i used it the first time, the maps icon is missing. trying hiding/showing files from the menu... searched the folders... but my effort is futile.

i've read from the internet and they are pointing to google.com/gmm... when i try to access the site using my blackberry i'm getting an error - Error encountered during XML parse. Unexpected end of file.

would appreciate if you could help me on this.

best regards,
gharz

BB 9700 OS v5.0.0.442 (Platform 5.1.0.121)

Weddeh,

i have installed this 2 days ago and installed lbs_ribbon as per your instruction. the app has been installed successfully but it isn't showing on my menu or even in other folders. tried restarting/rebooting my device yet it isn't there.

Maybe you have accidentally hide the bb map icon status, please check:
- Press BB Menu
- Select Show All (Icon)
- If you find the bb map icon (the color will be grayed)
- Press bb menu again > uncheck Hide

If these steps no avail, try to pull off the battery from your bb and try it again.

this would be under the downloads folder. go there and see if you see it? if yes, right click and choose move to folder and select home.

junaidIT,

unfortunately, it isn't in the Download folder. i have already checked all the folders but Maps icon is nowhere to found. i wonder what's wrong with my phone. i've downloaded the apps/software of our telecom operators (du and etisalat) from blackberry website.

i'm starting to get frustrated.

junaidIT,

i've already downloaded the software, both Etisalat and du, but still it doesn't show. with regard to downloading the file from blackberry.com/blackberrymaps... i've downloaded the lbs_ribbon a couple of times. been searching this from google as well before posting this question.

i just learned from a friend for a device to get the maps, i should subscribe to the BIS package with internet connection. my current BIS pacakge is only for social networking (fb, ym, bbm, twitter)... my package can't check emails and browse the net. surprisingly, when i inserted a SIM card having subscribed to BIS with internet, my phone automatically installed maps and the maps icon as well.

thanks, guys!
