Long term storage for devices with batteries

I have a few devices (mp3 player, video cameras) that I am using rarely.
Sometimes are not used for 3-4 months.

Which is the best way to store the battery for this long term of inactivity?

- Should I remove it from the device?!
- Battery should be fully charged or fully discharged?!
- Any documents on the above?

All batteries ale Li-Ion

Thank you

I have read that batteries are charged and stay unused for long time get damaged....

I am searching for some documentation proving or defeating this claim....

I was searching for some documents or research papers for confirming the claims.
But its ok :)
Thank you. I could not find any, but I am pleased my empirical evidence from many users helped you.
