Sharepoint BDC - Check Names not working

Long story short:

I have a BDC application definition in my sharepoint 2007 server, which is pulling data from a SQL server.

Some of this data is the Employee Name.

What i'm trying to do, is that when a user is writing a portion of the employee name in the BDC column (in the custom list) and then clicks 'Check Names', it will show him a list of the available names it found. (Like this user column type:) http://img577.imageshack.us/i/goodj.png/

now, what happens in real life when using BDC, is that i dont see the list of available users.

Any help solving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Can you re-post as an attachment.  I'm going through a Gov't network so I can't get to this picture.

Are you 100% sure you have Profile Importing turned on in your Sharepoint Farm?

I'm looking at other possibilities to your issue, so I might post another question.

Okay after some more digging, I found a great resource for you:

To create a BDC Import connection, first access your User Profile and Properties screen within your SSP (Central Administration –> SSP –> User profiles and properties).  On this screen, click on the View Import Connections link.  Then click on the Create New Connection toolbar button.  Finally, choose Business Data Catalog type in the drop down list.

Ok i tried doing what it sais in the article you gave, but i got in to a bit of trouble. Could use some help...

My current BDC Entity is Called IT. it contains all my IT employees.
The unique Identifier is the "Employee_name" column in the SQL table/BDC.

what exactly do i have to do now?
How far on the page did you get?  Did you create the 1:1 Mapping of the Unique ID?  Did you edit the code to reflect this?

Could it be related to BDC Search? maybe i need to enable search on the BDC?

It seems to be related to the UsedForDisambiguation attribute in the filter descriptor... Some more help will be gladly appreciated...

Got it to work, its the UsedForDisambiguation attribute in the finder method.
ITDesk,

I would like to point out that I believe I gave you a very solid walkthrough on that link to provide you with the information needed step by step to fix your issue.  It seems a little odd that you would like to accept your own comment as the solution.  If someone were to have the same issue, that link provided should be the solution in my opinion.  We are trying to create future answers to questions for people running into the same types of issues.

I recommend accepting comment http:#a34431625 as the answer.  That link provided by me is a direct walk-through of every step needed to get BDC working.  The Asker had been using the page for reference, and when he asked a question, I referred to the article and asked which step he was on so I could get a better idea of what was working and what wasn't.  He commented on the 5th of January http:#a34479971 where he asked for more help with getting it to work.  20 minutes later, he answered his own sub-issue of his larger issue with explaining the attribute that was giving him the issue.  Essentially, that article was the reason he was able to find the answer to his original question.

ITDesk,

Great, you were able to post the solution that gave you the answer you were looking for.  Can you hit "Assign Points" and then give your comment full credit for the answer?  This will help users in the future when going through your same issues.

Have a good one, and I'm glad you got it figured out.
