This is too subjective of a question.   What is your budget?  How many TB of RAID5 USABLE do you desire, what minimum performance characteristics, how much network traffic do you need to sustain?

You would probably be better off buying a used HP or Dell server rather than a DIY with new product.  Servers depreciate a lot, so you can get a great bargain for much less than you can build one.

grnow, you question is still too broad, how do we know wether to suggest a entry-level box, such as the Asus eeebox, or a server with lots of disk slots but limited PCI slots, or one with lots of PCI slots but limited disk expansion, or you might need lots of RAM, or lots of USB, or, or, or,    get my drift?

Let us know what you are going to use this server for and any size information that could be relevant.
