Cloning a 64bit Windows 2008 Server

I have a Windows 2008 64bit server I am using as my primary production box.  I have looked at several older posts regarding cloning Windows servers and Acronis seems to be the standard?  Is there anything else that will make an exact image of a Windows 2008 server that isn't so expensive?  Will Image Windows do the same thing for a fraction of the cost?  I need a few different options.  Thanks.

Looks like Clonezilla doesnt support mounted volumes or raid configurations.  Guess I should have been more specific.  This server is configured as RAID 5.  I do not want to have to disable the volume if I can get around it.  
you can use several tools but they come at the cost better option would be to get any commercial software they work in a manner where change of hardware will not cause any problem

Windows imaging tools for replicating a configuration may do what you need. More usually used for multiple desktops, but looks to handle server imaging too.
Image-x is a file imaging tool, not a sector based imaging tool that comes as part of server 2008.
It is part of the WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit) and is a command-line tool that you can use to create and manage Windows image (.wim) files.  A .wim file contains one or more volume/partition images that contain images of an installed Windows operating system.

GimageX.exe adds a GUI on top of image-x

What is the PURPOSE of your image?  Backup?  Re-deployment?
I have to upgrade our ERP software and database in the coming weeks.  I need a full proof way to roll it back should the upgrade blow up the live environment.  And since I do not have test server to try the new version out on I am going into this blind.  I need to be able to clone the system while the partitions are still mounted and it would be great to be able to recover the file system in the windows environment rather than booting to a dos environment.
So you don't have a physical server to test... why not test in a virtual server?

Windows Server backup SHOULD do the trick.  AT WORST, get yourself some extra Hard Drives and swap out the drives.  Restore to that. for testing - heck, use it as a disaster recovery scenario - something you almost certainly haven't tested (because MOST PEOPLE don't test) and make sure you can recover appropriately.
I looked into virtual software and decided installing VMware or adding Hyper-V to this server is as risky as the upgrade I need to do, not to mention I dont have that kind of downtime available.  Also, from what I have read VM's would take away from the live environments hardware resources.  I will take a look at windows server backup.  But will it backup and restore registry entries on the fly?  That is my biggest problem with this upgrade.  The database upgrade is going to wipe out the existing database during the upgrade.  No way around it.
Why are you so fixated on this machine?  You have no workstation or anything to setup a Hyper-V system on or VMWare system so that you can install and test.  I don't care what SHOULD work - it's horribly unwise to do major work to a production system without first TESTING and having backup plans.  ANY OLD 64 bit workstation with VT should be able to run Hyper-V.  Pull the drive in the system, put another in, and setup for a test.  Perform the BACKUP on the live server and OFF NETWORK, restore to the HYPER-V - or don't bother with Hyper-V and restore to the hardware.  2008 SHOULD be far more hardware independent than 2003 ever was so restoring should work fine.  This should show you what to expect.

Regardless of what advice you take with regards to this - mine or someone elses, it would be UNWISE to implement it without testing first.  
You should  also look at virtual box. This a an open source virtual solution that is running in many shops.

Then you could do a migration (Physical to virtaul )

Let me just clarify - imaging is great... and you should do it... but I've heard too many horror stories of images not restoring appropriately.  So perform a backup - perform an image - but whatever you do TEST before you proceed with the upgrade.  Any modifications to your production system (especially one that is apparently so critical) without verifying your recovery process is solid is UNWISE.

Its the only 64bit OS I have right now.  I don't have even a workstation to test with.  Bad situation right?  All my other servers are running 2003 32bit and workstations are running XP mainly, a few Vista machines.  

Now in saying that I still need to put SP2 on this server which automatically puts Hyper V on the box.  This may open some doors, I  will have to research it more.  From my understanding if Hyper V is available I can create a VM and test this way.
I added the Windows Server Backup feature and did a full backup of the server.  This should take care of restoring the file system if I need to.  I also got the go ahead on buying the Acronis license but not sure I need to go that far at this point.  Thanks guys for all the input on this question.
