move database

Hello,

I need move database from server A to server B. (one PC to other)
server A: SQL server Express 2008
server B: SQL server Express 2008 R2

How can I do that ? I don't have much experience with SQL servers.
I tried connect over network both PC and use import export tool but gives me auth error.
Also tried backup and restore on 2nd machine. Error when restoring - backup database version is different.
help.
thx

In each new installation, security of SQL Server is very high and remote access is disabled. First fix that.
Follow these steps:
http://www.linglom.com/2009/03/28/enable-remote-connection-on-sql-server-2008-express/

This is written for SQL 2008 Express but should also be valid for 2008 Express.

means that your 2 sql instances have different versions, aka the restore instance is lower version that the source instance.

in which case you cannot go the backup/restore method, but you need to migrate the schema and data differently.

... should also be valid for R2, of course.

You can try Detaching the database. Copy the database files ( .mdf and .log) files to the new server and attach to sql server. (not my prefered method)
That should work, just make sure not to delete the database when detaching

Can you clarify if you want to move from SQL 2008 to R2 or in the other way? If its from R2 to 2008 you cannot do that.
