IIS Advanced Logging and FTP

Hi,

I recently installed Advanced Logging on a 2k8 R2 server running both IIS and FTP 7.5.  Shortly after i installed it, I got complaints that some FTP processes were not running.  Upon further investigation, I discovered that the Advanced Logging was causing FTPSVC to crash. This is what shows up in the System Event log.

The FTP Service encountered an error trying to read configuration data from file \\?\C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config, line number 205. The error message is: Unrecognized element 'advancedLogging'
. The problem occurred at least 3 times in the last 5 minutes. The data field contains the error number.

Has anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas how to fix it?  I really need both Advanced Logging and FTP to run on the same server.

Thanks.

This could just be a corrupt config file. Check this Microsoft article for the replacement process:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735135%28WS.10%29.aspx
Please check if 'C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config" file and directory has permissions for IIS users and FTP service user. You may check the user in use for FTP service in services.msc.

Thank you both for your responses.

The config file is not corrupt as I can just comment out the advanced logging parts and it works normally.

Permissions are not an issue as we are not getting an access denied error of any kind.

The IIS_IUSRS and Network Service groups needed permission on the folder that the Advanced Logging feature was attempting to write to.
