Windows XP Pro "Server Service" will not start

I am running Windows XP Pro and can no longer access my mapped drives.  I noticed the Server service is not started. When I try to start the service I get the following error.
Could not start the Server service on Local Computer
Error 5: Access is denied.

If you have a 3rd party firewall, try and disable that temporarily and then try and restart the service. If that resolves it, add the Server service to the firewall's trusted or excluded list.
Or
you do not have the proper credentials to access Server or map drive (check with Administrator).
Administrator can block access.
