network problem linux mandriva 2007

Under linux mandriva 2007 my network cards are not hardware detected as eth0 and eth1 but as null and defore cannot be configured. The problem started when I tried to change the IP adress in the windows under vmware box I am using. Now only the vmnet1 network definition is available to configure under linux.
Does somebody now how to get the eth0 and eth1 back, thank you.

I expect it to be a software setting problem, eth0 is on the motherboard and eth1 is on extra installed card which if it is connected still blinks.

Usually a problem like this is caused by some change on the host (bare metal) Linux system. To eliminate this possibility, re-configure not to start VMware at boot time, and reboot. If ifconfig now shows both interfaces working, it would look like you made an unfortunate choice of new IP address in Windows guest which somehow causes the host boot script to fail.
Otherwise, concentrate on fixing the problem in the host. If ifconfig -a doesn't show the NICs (network interface cards), you are almost certainly missing the driver LKMs (Linux kernel modules) for them. Verify each NIC is shown by lspci, then determine what LKM you need to modprobe for each. Post lspci output if in doubt.
