I can go to here (as can anyone) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=13c7300e-935c-415a-a79c-538e933d5424 and download an R2 image but that's not what I need. We are a MAPS subsriber and certified member but our MAPS subscription only lets us download thr R2 version.
They do not mention R2 on that location. And the fact a x86 file is supplied tells me it cannot be R2.
That is an evaluation version, not a production version. Are you wanting licensed software or eval? Also, Qlemo is correct, that appears to be the first release of 2008, not R2.

I downloaded it and it is R2, I need pre R2 to do an inplace upgrade of server 2008 sp1, this because my server won't let me install the dns role. I removed DNS role due to some dns problems then tried to re-add it but it just says yours server needs to be restarted in order to undo the changes everytime. This box runs exhange server 2007 sp1 which won't run because of DNS etc. Once this box is back online I can then migrate the mailboxes etc. I can't upgrade to R2 because it doesn't support Exchange 2007.
You can't use an Eval ISO to do that. You need to get a real ISO from an authorized reseller or directly from MS.

Ok, I doubt any resellers will have this 'old' version. I will contact some friends in the trade, failing that I'll have to call MS. Thanks for your responses.
Actually, you can get ISOs for download or disc version for about $20 from CDW for almost any version of a MS OS you can think which is still in extended support. Windows 2000, 2003, R2, and 2008 are all available. You can get them from other sources as well. The only thing you CANNOT get is a prior OS in an eval. :)

Thanks, who is CDW ? I'm in the UK.
