How can I access a mysql database using the Windows Command Prompt

We host our company intranet on our own server - which I have access to through a shared network on my Windows computer. The intranet also has a mysql database. How do I access that database using the Windows Command Prompt? I tried the following but received  this area in command prompt: "mysql is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". This is the command prompt code I used to get that message:

mysql u-xxx h-111.1.1.1 p-xxx

Is my coding wrong or do I have install mysql software on my local machine or on the server where the database is stored?

you need to install the mysql client on your windows pc.

Download and install the Mysql Workbench it has the client in it, and also bundles up a lot of other useful utilities and also a nice gui if your interested in that.

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/

Location of mysql.exe after installation.

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Workbench 5.2 CE>mysql.exe
