how to find whether i have one on my system
if i have one how to set in path
try:

>which cc
or
>which gcc

This will determine if you have those

>echo $PATH

This will detemine your path

If you aren't having any luck, let me know which flavor of unix/linux you are using.  You should be able to just download an appropriate C compiler package.
