delete a file

How do I delete a file?  Or, if writing to it, how to I overwrite a file that already exists?  I'm using StreamWriter.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If your only using StreamWriter and not FileStream then you can use the constructor and specify false for append should overwrite the file if it exists.

If using FileStream use FileMode.OpenOrCreate
If using StreamWriter use (String,Boolean)

dim sw as new StreamWriter("c:\file.txt",False)

Use System.IO.Directory.Delete(<File path & name>).

Overwriting is deleting and recreating.
