Connecting to database through phpMyAdmin

I have access to our company intranet through a shared network on my Dell computer. The intranet is hosted on our own internal server. The intranet is running a mysql database. After installing phpmyadmin ON our internal server where the intranet is located, I can see the database and its fields but I am not able to update the records or create a new database in phpmyadmin. Is this because I am using a username/password with not enough privileges or is it because, since i'm using my computer, I'm trying to remotely access the database and the server permissions is not allowing me to update the database or create one? If its a remote access issue what can be done to allow me to edit the database through phpmyadmin which is being accessed from my computer?

Yes, it should be all about the user privileges. Try with root user.

I didn't have enough "privileges" with the previous user name I was using. After using the username "root", proper password, and connecting to "localhost" rather than the IP address...I was able to login to phpmyadmin and edit/create databases on our server which hosts our intranet.
Good to hear you got it working :)
