Windows 2003 Terminal Server - Why is the Windows Updates taking so long

In today for Maintenance since its a holiday and no one is using the servers. ran the windows udpate on the Term Serv and it found 70 critical updates - it has now been about 5hrs and its only installing 43 of 70. Why is this taking so long? I've checked the task manager and the CPU usuage is about 50% using MSIEXE.exe  which I assume is the Windows Updater working away and the System Idea process is states the other 50%.

I manage over 200 hundred servers and if I fall behind updates, i always do the updates minus the .NET. For some reason those always take forever.
thought I am going to go nuts waiting and thinking there might be a way to speed this up....I'll keep the .Net in mind next time.
