Remove Exchange from SBS 2003

I have been working on moving SBS 2003 to Server 2008 std and Exchange 2010.  I have been following the guide from this link.

https://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/A_2881-Migrate-Small-Business-Server-2003-to-Exchange-2010-and-Windows-2008-R2.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+10+2010+30+exchang+sb+server

For the most part it has been spot on.  Now I need to uninstall Exchange from the SBS server.  When I try to uninstall using the control panel I get the message: This program has already been removed.  Do you want to remove it from this list.  When I tried to uninstall using cd-2 I get an error and the installer program will not start.
Is there another way to get Exchange to uninstall?  Is there another way to get around this step and continue with the project?

keep track of: To remove the last Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000 server from an Exchange 2007 organization

That's an interesting one.

Is Exchange 2003 still installed? Can you run the System Manager?

Yes.  Exchange is still installed.  i can run the system manager.
I have all of the exchange functions running on the exchange 2010 server.  The last step i did was to delete the exchange connectors from exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
then follow the article i posted and there you will find the manual remove with adsiedit.

p.s. be sure you have also converted all gal's and recipient policys:

most steps are also described in this article:
http://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/upgrade-exchange-2003-to-exchange-2010---part-ii/

was helpfull for my gal conversion
The steps in the first link you posted are included in my article that the author is following.

This however is more to do with uninstalling the components from add/remove programs than about ensuring everything has been done in preparation for the removal.
Can you confirm you are highlighting Windows Small Business Server 2003 and click Change/Remove.
Yes, you have to be shure that all steps are taken.. if so you most likely can stop the services and after that remove the server with adsiedit.
Be sure not to remove the first organisation.
DO NOT USE ADSIEDIT! Especially not with as little guidance as has just been provided.  If we need to I will give proper instruction so that you don't damage your entire Exchange Organisation
dematzer: when you can't uninstall exchange normally it's the only way to archieve the goal.
Yes it is but it requires proper instruction.
There seems to be a little disagreement here.   What I need to acheve is for there not to be any pieces of exchange 2003 left behind when I shutdown the server.  Since I cannot uninstall I will have to do it by shutting down the exchange services and then demoting the server.  What would be the results?
Dont demote the server with Exchange on it.

There is no disagreement in the process.  The disagreement is in the handling of the information that isnprovided.  Making changes in ADSIEdit are irreverseable and can be catastrophic.  I would like to ensure it's done correctly and that other avenues have been explored before we delve in to ADSIEdit.  I am trying to protect your system!

Are you definitely selecting the SBS component from add/remove programs? Can you post a screen shot?
Last night as I was remoted to the server, not at the console,  and I decided to try the uninstall using the CD.  The program came up and ask for the 25 digit code.  This morning I entered the code and the installer came up.  I was able to start the uninstall, but it has problems with activesync and OMA.
The error reads
Microsoft Exchange subcomponet activesync with error code 0x80072030.
Microsoft Exchange subcomponet OMA with error code 0x80072030.
It fails the uninstall and closes the installer.
This is progress.  Now what do you suggest.
Can you check the following security groups exist:

Exchange Enterprise Servers
Exchange Domain Servers

Also check that they are in the Users container in Active Directory Users and Computers.
The objects are in AD in the users container.

I am going to work through the manual uninstall.  If I run into anything that I am unsure of I will stop until I have a solution.  Thanks for your time.
